ZIHUATANEJO

Zihuatanejo is a constantly growing tourism pearl on Mexico's Pacific shoreline. The city is situated approx. 250 km north of Acapulco, and just 10 minutes from the tourist city Ixtapa. Zihuatanejo has about 150.000 inhabitants and is a lively little city. The airport is located approx. 20 minutes by car from the city center.
The city center can offer you many things; internet cafes, grocery stores, pharmacy, doctor’s office, restaurants, bars, live music, souvenir shops, arts and crafts, beauty saloon and more. It is recommended that you visit the local yellow market down town as an attraction, and you will find anything you might need at the supermarket Comercial Mexicana or Aurera Bodega.
You should also visit the Indian market down by the main pier down town. Here you can find all sorts of souvenirs, but remember to bargain since it's a part of the deal here, and you can wander off with nice stuff at a good price. There are taxi boats to Playa las Gatas and other tourist activities by boat located by the main pier.
The city has 5 beaches, and by Playa la Ropa you'll find Casa Heidi. The beach is shielded at the inmost of the bay, and is therefore a popular swimming spot. Playa la Ropa has many facilities and activities, restaurants, water sports, massage and lifeguards.
There are plenty of tourist attractions around Zihuatanejo too, like Playa Larga and Playa Linda with horseback riding, La Barra de Potosi a salt water lagoon with local Mexican restaurants, Petatlan an inland town with a big gold and silver market, Ixtapa the hotel town with a great nightlife. You can reach all these destinations by bus, and the trip takes less than 1 hour.
